The thing about gas or deisel trucks is that you cqn refil the car any where as long as u have a jerry can with u but with a tesla u cant charge with a jerry can unless u have a solar panel in there and u open it

@Billy Putnam Yes, I agree. The problem with regenerative breaking is that it won't work if battery is over 80% of charge. But if it is on electrify road the excess of electricity go back to the grid. When driving on electric roads for safety reasons the speed limit is 60mph and it can go faster but no recommended.

@nelio SAMch it's so Wrong that the people in these situations are interested in the next Dollar to be made and removed from your account and not how much can we save and how far can we go! Do you know if they have even optimized the recharging while driving\Towing? Some race cars use a alternator that drives off of the drive shafts or wheels\moving parts instead of the parasitic losses off of the engine. And say belts\Gearing to the trailer wheels are free spinning and could be a good place for Regen to get more power from when braking or down hilling etc?

You would think you should be able to charge/recharge the batteries via solar panels. I mean, the reason people drive electric cars is to get away from fossil fuels but it takes fossil fuel to make electricity to charge the batteries at this point, no?

Just take a small tractor'kie, on a small pick-up, when the batteries won't soldier any further, just hook small tractor up, and go slowly back home. Small pick-up will go back home on gasoline only !

BC EVsto quite bad at speeds past 180kph or about 112 in Microwaves Per Hitchhiker as for example a Model 3 Performance range goes down from avg 500km to a mere 100-150km if you floor it
as well as the top end speed and acceleration gets quite poor past the 200kph mark for having ~500hp and more then 600nm

What a good idea just carry spare cans of electricity. Or actually if you carried a couple of batteries the same size as a couple of gas cans they might be a little heavier than gasoline. But how much energy could you draw from to lithium ion batteries the size of gas cans. That's a good idea brother.

well if you go the electric rout and needing to tow long distance you should think to get a hydrogen generator "eco friendly" i just dont know if the extra weight would make it viable

I think the absolute best solution for an electric truck would have to be a very efficient cooling system and power management when either it is pulling a trailer or off-roading. I also really like that idea of a trailer with its' own electric motor to assist in towing.

I do have one question though, on average how far does the range go down with traditional gas-powered trucks during towing or off-roading?

The poster here have a typical ICE big truck mentality. My great truck can do everything. With the great big V8 or diesel in front I will smash everything in a vehicle collision. He deliberately did everything wrong on the EV side to show off his great BIG truck vs. the EV.. By comparing his TRUCK to an EV CAR he is debritely NOT comparing apples to apples. He should be comparing a Honda Civic to the EV. Secondly he is not selecting the right trailer. Transport Evolved went from Portland Oregon to CES and back with no problem carrying all their luggage in a trailer. They selected the RIGHT TRAILER.
Need Extra Cargo Space For Your Electric Car? by Transport Evolved
All the off road test show he has no idea of ground clearance needed. Should have taken a Rinian EV. If he had used an ICE car with low ground clearance like a Lamborghini the Lamborghini can not go off road either.
All the poster has done is show HE DOES NOT KNOW how to ADAPT to using EVs. BOO!

But you might want to look into the new charging tech for lithiums bout 15 20 mins. I have little doubt that guys like you will hold out till diesel fuel is twenty bucks a gallon and available only as a specialty fuel. Much like leaded fuel now.

Just enough time to take a leak, grab a bag of chips and a Milky Way, and go. The downside, you will be comfortable sitting on the side of the road enjoying that candy bar, I will have to eat while I drive my Duramax.

In Texas a 500 mile turn around for a high school football game is the norm. I realy like the idea of a electric pic-up truck but we must get real. Trucks here have tool boxes an other gear, maybe 1000 Lb. load all the time. Think of the times you drive around town, get down to 1/4 tank of fuel ,get a call and must go 150 miles or more right now. Untill they get cars that have a 1200 mile range,it is a waste of time to make trucks.People who need a truck need range. A 15 min. charge is great but you need a charger in every small town, and city large and small, BEFORE you sell the trucks.

Good information. I guess it is not surprising given that my Chevy Silverado 1500 can get less than 50% it’s normal gas mileage, depending on the weight of a trailer. If I’m getting 10 mpg (and I have on a trip with a 7,000 lb travel trailer) with a 26 gallon tank that’s at most 260 miles range. So in the future if the Cybertruck gets only half of its 500 mile range that’s about the same with 250.
